It's better to antimony-hardened 1/2-inch diameter lead balls, made specifically for pyrotechnic ball milling. They cost a little more than the soft, pure lead balls, but last much longer. 5 pounds (200) 1/2-inch balls will fill one of these jars half full, which is exactly what you want. It is important to optimize your ball …

Dec 20, 2010· Will hardened lead antimony balls wear out quickly in a ball mill? I've read that regular soft lead balls can wear out extremely quickly and contaminate mixtures in a ball mill, but what about these hardened lead antimony balls? I don't really fancy the idea of breathing in a lot of lead dust after a couple hours of milling.

A uniquely hardened lead alloy is swaged to form near perfect spheres. Super Buck has become so popular that our size range extends beyond what are known as standard buckshot sizes; a range of is made in the widest range of sizes available in the world, from .160"(standard #1) to .500" (.50 cal round ball) and almost every size in between ...
Lead shot is classified in very general names that refer to antimony alloy content. The two types of lead shot are known as either chilled or magnum. Antimony is the alloying metal used to harden lead. Antimony is a brittle flaky, crystalline metal with a density of 6.7 grams/cc. Pure lead…
Arsenic is a catalyst to a greatly improved strength/time curve in heat treating & quenching lead/antimony alloys. Magnum shot is a great source of both arsenic and antimony for enriching your alloy. Linotype is a much better source of antimony (12%) but not of arsenic.
Jul 17, 2012· Making Black Powder with a Ball Mill. Just so you know what’s going on. This is me in my backyard. I am using a homemade ball mill I’ve had for 20 years, and Skylighter’s ½” antimony-hardened lead balls.

Oct 23, 2017· I'm not familiar with the BHN of shot either by know most of it is harder than pure lead. All depending but a bit harder than pure is ok when the ball is just a bit oversized. But I'd not feel comfy trying a .330" hardened ball. I found I had forgotten balls for my Ruger and tried .490" balls. It took a lot of force. That was pure lead.

Sep 26, 2007· I found that you can go as high as 70% Pb and 30% WW's and still ahve enough antimony and arsenic remaining to harden it. It comes out around 15-16 Bhn. This is with the pure lead stick-on WW's removed and/or used as a pure lead source. You may just want to do a 100 or 200 lb batch of 50/50 alloy and save the rest to keep your options open.
The Hardball Bullet Casting Alloy consists of 2% tin, 6% antimony and 92% lead. This modern version of the old Lyman #2 is an excellent all-around alloy for most handgun bullets and many higher velocity rifle cartridges. The Brinell Hardness of Hardball Alloy is about 16. Dec 20, 2008· Page 2 of 2 - Hi, Where to get lead ball mill media? - posted in Pyro Tools: Thanks Spanner, I do my best... That's an interesting article. As I read it you will only get additional hardness if you use a lead alloy. You certainly get a harder alloy by adding a proportion of antimony. To be honest, I've never gone down this road, as I've been using pure (ish) lead balls for many years now and ...
